“We need to broaden our sympathies both in space and time – and perceive ourselves as part of a long heritage, and stewards for an immense future.” – Martin Rees
Impact assessment
A Statement of Heritage Impact is the basis of impact assessment for heritage items or buildings in heritage conservation areas. They address:
- why the item is of heritage significance
- what impact the proposed works will have on that significance
- what measures are proposed to mitigate negative impacts
- where necessary, why more sympathetic solutions are not viable.
Most councils request that all development proposals to heritage listed items, or properties in heritage conservation areas, are supported by a Heritage Impact Statement. We’ve been involved in the design of heritage impact statements as a service provider to both private sector and local government for 20 years. We also have vast experience and knowledge of writing the assessment process from the inside as council heritage advisors. We know what is needed to ensure value and integrity for all parties, keeping costs to a minimum.
